That's the point that I decided I needed to go home, since I don't like being out after dark. I had to use my face towel that I keep in my purse to dry my feet enough to put my shoes on (don't worry, I've washed it already). So I put on my raincoat and headed out. I had barely made it to the driveway when Videl called to me. He was insistent that I accept a ride home.
I didn't really want one. I like walking, and I'm terrified of the traffic here. But one of the guys had a truck, and it was raining hard, so I gratefully accepted.
Now, one of the few things I remember about the preschool trip that we took to the UBC Experimental Farm was the water spraying up from the bus’ tires. You know that massive spray when a big vehicle goes through a deep puddle. That's what it was like for much of the ride home. I was particularly happy not to be experiencing that as a pedestrian. It would have been an hour- long walk, so an hour of traffic spray.
The best part, though, was getting to the waterfront. I have never seen so many people on the beach or in the water. It was almost as if people were thinking that they were wet anyway, so they may as well go for a swim.
Last week, by comparison, there were about a tenth of the number of people, and I thought it was busy. This was really busy.
Most of the time when I see people on the beach, it is 10 to 13 year old boys. Sometimes, it'll be a dad with toddlers. Today, there were lots of women and teenaged girls, families, boys, 20 something men. Everyone looked happy and excited. It was great to see.
