I'm about to add two Islands to my list of Islands That I Have Spent At Least One Night On. It will bring my total to 30.
For years, Bob Crane and I have been having a contest about the number of islands each of us has spent at least one night on. The concept came from the second book by Thurston Clark. His first book, Equator, told of his journey around the world visiting a great many countries that touched the equator. I bought that book in the Doubleday Flagship bookshop in New York in 1990.
Clark’s book Islands had longer chapters and told more about the nine or ten islands included in the book. He also introduced his personal list, and Bob and I started to compile ours.
Mine currently numbers 28, though by December 11, it will be up to 30. Last I heard, Bob was at 34.
How about you? How many islands have you spent at least one night on? It counts if you spent the night on a boat that was tied up to an island. It doesn't count if you fell asleep while day tripping on an island (I.e. You had a nap).
For your amusement, here’s my list:
Vancouver Island
Salt spring
Galiano
Quadra
Texada
Malcolm
South Moresby

Ok, now that's a challenge. I'll have to collaborate with Paul on this one.
